Decided to give this a shot!
Submission for the musically inspired design challenge. I had some fun with it, and wanted to approach it in sort of a different way. Long-winded explanation in 3... 2... 1...
I was expecting most of the submissions for this contest to be pretty abstract (splashes and swirls of color mixed with instruments etc.), or to focus on specific genres of music. Those are both things that I wanted to stay away from. Instead I decided to focus on trying to represent music with something similar to itself, alive and real, and I decided that the chameleon would suit that purpose pretty well. I thought that it's ability to change color goes hand in hand with music's ability to change mood and tone, as well as genre. I also had the idea to exaggerate the length of its tail and take that, the chameleon's body, and the branch it is hanging on to, and lay them out so that they come together to form the shape of a treble cleft. The jagged magenta line running down the chameleon's side is supposed to be symbolic of rhythm, and the music lines coming out of his headphones and swirling down around the branch before dissipating into decorative curls represent the flow of a song.
I had a lot of fun with it and I'm pretty happy with the result, but if anyone has suggestions let me know. This was all done in illustrator, so resizing won't be a problem. Download for the full size, and I'd really appreciate your support when voting opens on the 6th!
